Page 1 of 5 There are many reasons why a system such as ProMediaserve is useful to a professional photographer today. Initially Tim developed the software for his own work-flows ensuring he made the most of digital advantages so images would never be lost and identical copies could be delivered to any number of clients within minutes anywhere in the world. ProMediaservehas is an integral part of Tim's work-flows for selling his stock images, delivering commssioned shoots to clients, showing event photography and having clients order prints.
Before a trip to the USA, Tim had called all his regular clients to ask if they had all the pictures they might need from him for the next 6 weeks. To those that required selections, he spent hours making sorting images and shipping the transparencies out. Of course as soon as he arrived in the remote parts of the Eastern Sierras of California, he checked his messages on his answer phone to hear that a travel company urgently needed a selection of pictures and that they had emailed the list of requirements, which sounded like a substantial sale as Tim knew he had the images for their needs. However, he was heading to the desert and was thousands of miles from his images having problems getting online to pick up emails let alone deliver the pictures. Frustration spoilt the next few days of the trip and Tim lost shooting opportunities while he tried to get the email and communicate with some one back home how to make and ship out a selection. A huge effort, an one that potentially was a waste of time and money, as the client might not choose any of the shots, but as a freelance photographer thats how it works. One thing is for sure, if when called you don't send anything, that client will probably not call you next time, so you might not just miss one sale but could miss years of sales. On his return to Europe, Tim thought the situation was ridiculous especially as he had started to shoot digitally and had scanned the best of his stock images. If only they were available online... But you can't put 1000s of images into an FTP folder and give the password to all your clients. He needed as system that showed thumbnails, a preview and then allowed controlled download access to trusted clients. Not finding software or a service to do that, Tim created his own system. Now, Tim can go away anywhere for weeks and his existing clients have access to either the shoot that they commissioned or to stock images, with automatic downloads. Potential new clients can see his kind of work and place orders and Tim can OK the orders from his cell phone.
