Fall-Line magazine

In the summer of 1989, Tim, along with a group of skiers who featured in his photography, sat around a table and were still not satisfied with the photographic content of the UK or European ski and snowboard magazines. Again they claimed anyone could do better, and so they set about trying, forming Fall-Line Ski and Snowboard magazine. Done as a one off statement to show the other press that is was possible to have a publication with inspirational articles and images, the unique edition was overwhelmingly supported by the winter sports industry in the UK. Tim bought a Macintosh  Classic and a version of QuarkXpress and the 100 page magazine was put together entirely by Tim and friends around the kitchen table. The magazine was then distributed from the back of his car around the UK to ski and outdoor shops, ski clubs and dry ski slopes until it sold out. That winter one of the advertisers who had some publishing experience suggested going monthly for the following season and agreed to back the title. Together, they secured high street news agent distribution with WHSmiths and the title had six issues the next winter. In its 3rd year Tim produced the title in French and German and became the first pan-european winter sports magazine. Unfortunately, the promised backing was not there and Tim walked away from the magazine as it became more hassle than it was worth affecting his preferred lifestyle choices. Fall-Line continues today and is still regarded by many as the best and most inspirational ski publication in the UK. It was also the catalyst for the glossy photography influenced French and German publications that where inspired by what was possible. Having been involved with the production of the magazine from producing the editorial, designing the layout, logos and much of the advertising content, Tim was then asked to produce not only the photography, but-also write the press releases, advertisements and even design logos, clothing and product graphics for some of his clients.
